14th September 2017 - We've had a busy week here at Heeley City Farm! Not only did we have the success of the Autumn Show on Sunday but on Saturday we enter into the Penistone Agricultural Show where our Golden Guernsey Goats were enter - Duchess and Daffodil were awarded as best and second best goatling (year old) golden guernsey in the show and Elm as the best goat kid.
We also won best golden guernsey goat overall. Good time for rare breed golden guernsey goats!
Yesterday our Soay Sheep where taken to their new home for the Winter out in the Peaks as part of An Organic Wildflower Meadow Conservation Project (converting pastures back from intensive grazing) working to spread the seeds and improve bio-diversity.
Our main site and our satellite sites did brilliantly in the Britain In Bloom Awards as well this week. Our main site on Richards Road was awarded Level 5 (Outstanding), our Firth Park Community Allotment was also awarded a Level 5 (outstanding), as was our Wortley Hall Walled Garden site. The Wortley Hall site was awarded a Discretionary Citation in The Yorkshire Rose Conservation and Wildlife Award.
Well done to the Animal Team, The Local Food and Growing Team and all those involved in creating the Autumn Show!
